Katie

Hello! I am so glad you’re here! My name is Katie. I have been a nurse for going on 13 years. I have my BSN and a masters degree in nursing education, focused in maternity and pediatrics. My background in nursing is diverse, and filled with experience. My experiences range from geriatric health to medical surgical. I live in Oregon. I am married to a wonderful man, my best friend. We met on eHarmony years ago and just celebrated our 8th anniversary. We have a dog, Goose. Actually, Goose has been with me since I was single. We have two wonderful, beautiful children who are growing faster than my heart is prepared for. They are both so energetic and fun. I love being their mom; it is truly my pleasure to be home with them and care for them. As a family we love to travel, be outside, and work on our home. When I get the rare alone time, I love being creative through art, photography, and music. I also love being active with my kids. Being a mother is so very hard and also one of the most rewarding and beautiful things I have experienced.

My dream as a little girl was to some day be a mommy. When I attended nursing school and completed my graduate work, I developed a love for teaching and empowering my patients to improve their lives and their health.  When I delivered my first born I was not expecting to be blindsided by complications, the weight of perceived expectations, and all the conflicting and overwhelming advice. It seemed as if every single person had “the right way” and “the best way” and ‘the only way” and it was all conflicting and different. Was there a place for my way? Was there room for my experience? Yes, it took some time but my baby boy and me and my husband found our way. I learned so much through those early days. The biggest lesson though? Listen to your gut, trust the parent’s intuition, lean into their unique one of a kind experience.

I became a Mama Coach to be the support and empathy families need, especially during the raw early days. My goal is to offer you evidence-informed information and tailor it to your family’s unique needs. When I decided to become a Mama Coach I did so with the desire to empower mothers and fathers and other family members to care confidently for their child’s needs. I believe there is no better parent for your child than you. I am honored to offer my support and skills in anyway that I can.

frequently asked questions

Good question!  We are called The Mama Coach because years ago, when Carrie’s first boy was very small, she often wondered out loud to herself, “Where is my Mama Coach?” and “I need a Mama Coach!”.  Carrie searched and searched for qualified support and realized there was a need for qualified support for new families. We recognize that our name can give the impression that we only serve moms, but we will continue to work and learn to ensure our messaging is clear that all people are welcome here. Parents carry a heavy load, and do it with grace.  All parents deserve support, and The Mama Coach is the answer you’ve been searching for.

We do not just support moms — we help ALL people.  All are welcome here, and we are committed to providing you with quality support, no matter your gender or family dynamic.  As we learned in nursing school, your family is who YOU say they are.

We get asked this one all the time.  As Registered Nurses, having merely one method does not align with how we were trained in University to utilize the nursing process.

The Nursing Process is defined as, a “systematic approach to care using the fundamental principles of critical thinking, client-centered approaches to treatment, goal-oriented tasks, evidence-based practice (EDP) recommendations, and nursing intuition.  Holistic and scientific postulates are integrated to provide the basis for compassionate, quality-based care” (*1).

Simply put, we will assess your child using our nursing training to determine the best way to help your family reach their goals, walking beside you all the way.  You can choose us with confidence, knowing you have picked the most qualified resource to support your family’s journey.

Yes.  As Registered Nurses, we have years of training on where to access credible guidelines and information. All of our programming is based on extensive research from credible sources.

As Registered Nurses, it is our professional obligation to manage client records and confidential information properly.  We use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that is compliant throughout North America.  Even though we share the same brand, we are all independent Registered Nurses with our own private practices. As such, we each have our own EMR that is private and secure. We do not share EMR or client information between one another without consent.

Often they are — the answer largely depends on where you live and what your private insurance covers.  For example, in Canada, our services are covered under ‘Lactation’, ‘Registered Nurse Services’ or ‘Health Spending Accounts’.  In the United States our services can be covered as well, through HSA or FSAs.  Reach out to me for more information.
